How We Make our100% Blue Weber Agave Tequilas
How Don Julio Started
To better understand how Don Julio is made, we need to start at the beginning with our founder. Don Julio González’s legacy began in 1942 in the Highlands of Jalisco, where he founded La Primavera distillery with a vision rooted in love for the land, agave, and his community. His unwavering dedication to the craft of tequila-making led him to create a spirit of exceptional quality, setting a standard that still guides us today. At Don Julio, we honor this tradition by following the original recipe he perfected over 80 years ago, using only 100% Blue Weber Agave and maintaining the same passion and care he did. With a deep respect for the heritage of tequila, we continue to produce exceptional liquids for a variety of palates and occasions, always in full compliance with the Tequila Official Standard (NOM) and certified by the CRT.

Is Don Julio Made with 100% Blue Weber Agave?
Don Julio tequilas use the finest, perfectly matured, 100% Blue Weber Agave that are cultivated in the rich clay soils of Jalisco, Mexico. Don Julio adheres to a long and very strict list of specifications which includes the selection of lands, the selection of the agaves, the space between agaves, and very detailed care for the plant during the more than six years each takes to mature – all to ensure the unique profile.
How are Don Julio tequilas distilled?
Don Julio was among the first to age tequilas beyond the standard regulations. This extended aging process helps achieve the most extraordinary flavor. Don Julio uses fully matured agaves, a slow cooking process in masonry ovens, fermentations using a unique yeast strain developed by Don Julio González, and double distillation in copper pot stills, to achieve its distinctive tequila profile.
